Tomato Dreams - Oil Painting

Tomatoes and I go way back. I grew up with tomato plants. I remember one particular year in which we had so many of them it almost looked like a tomato forest. My vegetable hating younger brother was so overwhelmed by it and started excecuting the plants and tomatoes behind my mom's back. Boy, she was NOT happy..

While I don't have such a grand garden anymore, I still keep two tomato plants every year and they yield pretty good during summer. This year me and my daughter planted some early girl tomatoes and they are already flowering and has some baby tomatoes. We are dreaming shiny tomatoes :)

Gamble Tulips - Acrylic Painting

Here is a happy little painting of the spring tulips from Elizabeth Gamble Garden in Palo Alto. I love this garden and try to get here atleast couple of times in a year. They have a cute gazebo and best planted seasonal flowers all done by the volunteers. While it is not as big as Filoli garden, it is very charming and has always been one of my favorites.

Done on a 11 X 14 Canvas with acrylic. The tulips and some parts of the tree are painted impasto style with knifes. The rest were with brush. The intention was not to do a detailed one like I usually do but to paint loose and have fun with it which I sure had. Hope you like it :)

Pink Pacific - Oil Painting

Happy Earthday !! Hope you were able to enjoy something natural, something earthy, something outside today. I wanted to go out and do some plein air painting today to celebrate earth in my own way. Didn't quite workout, so I chose to finish this painting that I started some time last year.

This one is based on a photograph that I took during my visit to Carmel on a clear spring day. Pink ice plants carpets the Pacific Grove area in Carmel every spring and provides a stunning contrast to the blue ocean. Initially I wasn't sure if this is the composition that I wanted - I felt the rock was more distracting and took away the emphasis from the ice plants. After looking at it few months now, I think now I have grown to like the rock. :). So , here is the finished painting..

T-Stormed Valley - Oil Painting

Sorry haven't updated the blog in a while. I have been painting but in a much sloooower phase. Here is a large format painting that I started in January. This was sitting on a easel in my living room for couple of weeks now. After hearing "Looks done, why are you still working on this ?" from family and the visitors alike, I have decided to sign the painting on this fine Sunday :).

T-Stormed Valley painting is based on a photo that I took in Yosemite amidst thunder sorms last fall. Done on a 24 X 36 canvas with water soluble oil. Mostly done with brush and some knife strokes. Hope you like it..

Here are details on the painting.
